Lewis County is pleased to announce it will provide round trip public transportation from Lowville to
Utica area colleges starting Wednesday August 26, 2015. The "College Connector" route is sponsored by
Lewis County Public Transportation and is operated by Birnie Bus Inc. It originates in downtown Lowville
and stops at Port Leyden, Boonville, Alder Creek, Remsen and Barneveld before reaching SUNY Poly and
Mohawk Valley Community College. The bus also stops at Riverside Mall/Wal-Mart shopping center,
Union Station and the Centro Transit Hub in Utica and the New Hartford Shopping Center and
Sangertown Square in New Hartford.

The "College Connector" has two schedules; a Monday-Wednesday-Friday schedule and a Tuesday-Thursday
schedule. Both schedules are available on the County's website under the Public
Transportation tab. The one-way fare from Lowville to Utica is $5.00 and $5.50 to New Hartford. The
discounted one-way fare for college students is $1.00 with a valid college ID card.

Sara Freda, Lewis County Mobility Manager, has been exploring ways to expand the County's public
transportation since she started working for the County in late 2013. She has been coordinating the
County's successful seasonal transportation to and from Old Forge for the past two summers. Under
Ms. Freda's leadership, ridership has significantly increased which necessitated the need for a second
bus this summer. Her efforts have enabled hundreds of Lewis and Oneida County teens to secure
seasonal employment.

Ms. Freda hopes this momentum will spill over into the educational component. " In order to better
compete in our evolving workplace, our residents need college degrees. We are blessed to have two
highly rated colleges located close by and a public transportation system willing to take a chance on
connecting its residents to such facilities". Ms. Freda stated there were 77 Lewis County residents
attending MVCC in the Spring 2015 semester. "My goal is to get 10 percent of them to Ride With Us!"
