Whetstone State Park is located 6 miles south of Lowville just off Route 26. Whetstone's winter recreation season is from mid-December to the first week in March. A heated recreation building with restrooms is open Wednesday through Sunday, closed Monday and Tuesday. There is no charge for cross-country skiing. Whetstone has approximatly 5 miles of groomed cross country ski trails that go through the picnic area, loop around the camping area and follow the exercise trail. The trails accommodate skiers from novice to expert. All skiers should register at the recreation building. No person should start on the trails after 3 p.m. or be on the trails after dark. Additional information and maps are avilable at the park entrance booth and recreation building. Whetstone Gulf State Park also offers camping, picnicking, swimming, and hiking in season.
